Top 10 Trends in Retail Banking, 2011
Boston, February 2, 2011 – A new report from Aite Group identifies 10 trends that will shape U.S. retail banking in 2011 and focuses largely on how banks will rebuild revenue.
Banks will seek to recoup lost or declining revenue by altering checking account fee structures, rethinking lending, and emphasizing credit cards over debit cards. Other trends include stronger management of debit fraud, restructured rewards programs, a push toward prepaid cards, and an increased focus on mobile payments.
“Fed mandates and Regulation E are hurting banks’ already depressed revenue streams,” says Gwenn Bézard, research director with Aite Group and co-author of this report. “To return to growth, banks will be forced to innovate; the dramatic pressures they currently face will help boost innovation in the long run.”
