3-D Secure 2.0 has the potential to be a key tool in issuers and merchants’ fight against CNP fraud, according to new Aite Group research.
Boston, February 21, 2018 — Aite Group’s newest report, 3-D Secure 2.0: Key Considerations for Card Issuers, examines the challenges that card-not-present fraud presents for issuers and merchants alike, since an increasing proportion of payment card purchases are migrating to CNP channels. Many merchants have deployed multiple fraud solutions designed to aid detection with a minimum of transactional friction, and a number of countries have mandated multifactor authentication for CNP transactions. The report reveals how 3DS 2.0 can help issuers and merchants balance the need to prevent fraud with the competitive driver of providing easy, user-friendly customer experiences.
“An increasing proportion of payment card purchases are migrating to CNP channels, and the criminals are following,” explains Julie Conroy, research director at Aite Group. “3DS 2.0 can help issuers and merchants balance the need to provide a good customer experience while stemming rising CNP fraud losses,” she adds.
This latest report provides insight into the key factors that issuers need to take into consideration as they plan their move to 3-D Secure 2.0. Sponsored by RSA, this report is based on Q1 2018 interviews Aite Group conducted with global payment networks, issuers, merchants, and fraud mitigation vendors as well as ongoing conversations with executives in the space about their current and planned use of 3DS.
