Portfolio Systems: Overview of ASP/SaaS Deployment Options
Portfolio systems deployed via ASP/SaaS models, now available from most vendors, offer cost savings over installed systems.
Boston, MA, September 15, 2010 – A new report from Aite Group provides an overview of vendor solutions that offer an application service provider (ASP) or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) deployment of portfolio systems.
The difficult market environment over these last couple of years has forced asset managers to reduce expenditures while growing new assets. Compared with an installed version, the hosted solution option provides time and cost savings to parties obtaining needed technology.
Competitive price-dropping is a standard in tough times, and has certainly occurred over the last two years. In some ways, the hosted solution option is the ultimate in price-dropping, nearly eliminating the implementation costs that typically average 40% to 60% of the initial solution price for an installation deployment. Because contracts for hosted solutions are on annual or three-year terms, they provide flexibility for the vendor to properly price the client relationship, development demands, and cost of goods sold. They also provide flexibility for a client to renegotiate terms or exit a contract.
“Uncertain markets and jittery investors are expected to exemplify the investment landscape for the next few years,” says Denise Valentine, senior analyst with Aite Group and author of this report. “Because economic recovery continues slowly, budget constraints, staffing shortages, and a competitive sales market will haunt asset managers for some time. This environment is advantageous to the hosted solution option.”
The report includes a summary of corporate information for the 20 firms included in the report: Advent Software, Calypso Technologies, CGI, DST Global Solutions, Eagle Investment Systems, ERI Bancaire, Fiserv, Imagine Software, INDATA, Linedata Services, Misys, Openlink Financial, Paladyne Systems, Pendo Systems, Princeton Financial Systems, QED, Sophis, SS&C Technologies, SunGard, and Thomson Reuters.
