Cloud-Computing Governance: A Strategic Approach to Manage Cloud Risks

Business rules and protocols guide organizations for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective use of cloud computing.
/

Boston, December 15, 2021 –Over the last 18 months, financial services organizations of all sizes rapidly embraced the overall business trend to move to cloud-based infrastructure and services. For many organizations, cloud security and risk management have been reactionary and extremely tactical. Today, organizations that have not embraced the cloud are outliers and may not be able to compete against more nimble competitors. The cloud is here to stay.

This Impact Brief defines the principles of cloud governance and describes how applying cloud governance can offer a more strategic approach to cloud use. It is based on research conducted between August and October 2021, including discussions with 15 financial services chief information security officers and cloud technology professionals representing North American organizations with US$10 billion to US$1 trillion in assets, an interview with a senior executive at one of the largest cloud providers, attendance at virtual industry events, and the author’s own experience as a former CISO and cybersecurity consultant.
