Interest in policy administration system replacement remains strong at life and annuity insurers. Policy admin replacement was high priority in Novarica’s Insurer IT Budgets and Projects 2021 report: 31% of large and 42% of midsize life/annuity/benefits (L/A/B) insurers reported plans to start or continue replacement projects in 2021 or make major enhancements to their policy capabilities.

Decisions about returning to offices, working from “not here,” or a hybrid are happening among many employers, including in the individual life space. Last month, I hosted an Individual Life Insurance Special Interest Group with my colleague Rob McIsaac to discuss critical issues for the industry going into the back half of 2021. How did you get into insurance?

I attended business school at Ole Miss, where I enrolled in an introductory course on risk management. I did well in the class and enjoyed learning about strategies companies employ to mitigate risks. After graduation, I went into insurance sales—first at a captive agency and later at independent agencies.

I appreciate the day-to-day work of an independent agent. It is fun to find solutions that help people protect their businesses. I focus on commercial lines, specializing in construction accounts. I also work closely with many high-net-worth households in my community.
