Last week I had the great opportunity to spend the afternoon at Gore Mutual’s Fast Forward event in Toronto. This was the second time Gore Mutual hosted such an event, which gathered brokers together to discuss common issues and share ideas.
The event was a “brokers talking to brokers” event; topics ranged from industry trends to ideas about the use of technology and possible industry disruption to predicting what will matter most to the broker of the future.

Last week, we hosted our most recent Novarica Regional Roundtable event in Columbus, Ohio. Nearly 30 participants representing a broad coverage of business lines in both the P/C and L/A arenas attended and we had a wide-ranging discussion of the issues and trends impacting the industry today. This session also coincided with the start of 2019 budgeting and planning for many carriers, which added a very immediate and practical dimension to the discussions.

The California Department of Insurance recently reported that Athene and Accordia ran into huge trouble because of a BPO mishap with their policy administration. This was due to the fact that there have been a significant number of accusations logged against these companies—over 100 since early 2016—and that they have failed to meet California service standards for about 50,000 policies issued to California residents. The results were any carriers’ nightmare and a story of caution for any merger or acquisition activity.
